In 2021, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops announced a nation-wide financial commitment of $30 million dollars to support healing and reconciliation initiatives for residential school survivors, their families, and their communities. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough pledged the sum of $400,000 and our own parish has pledged $25,000.
The funds will be overseen by a local committee comprised of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (“FNMI”) representation in collaboration with a National IRF Board of Directors. The members of the local committee have been anounced and it’s now possible for members from a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit group, organization, institution, or community within the region served by the Diocese of Peterborough to apply for funding for eligible projects.
To support Truth and Reconciliation efforts, as of August 6th, our parish has raised $21,474 of our $25,000 goal! Thanks so much to those who have supported this through the post-Communion collection at Mass.
