February 2nd is the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, recalling the moment when Jesus, as a child, was presented in the temple along with a thanksgiving offering. The feast commemorates the moment when Simeon proclaimed how Jesus is the light for all nations.
Attached to this feast is a tradition of blessing candles that will be used to foster the faith of the people. At the 9am Mass on Saturday, February 3rd, those candles used for the Sanctuary lamp, Baptisms, vigil candles and other religious purposes will be blessed. Those who use candles in their own personal prayer are welcome to bring in their candles to be blessed too; just set them on the table at the front of the church before the Mass.
