Did You Know? ⛪
Did You Know? ⛪
St. Joseph Parish has been serving the Catholic community of Bowmanville since 1857. When our present church was built in 1958, seven of the eight stained glass windows were carefully moved from the original church on Church Street. The eighth window was generously donated by Knights of Columbus Council 2671 of Oshawa, completing the beautiful set of windows we enjoy today.
Take a few moments before or after Mass to tap your smartphone on the sticker located on the side of each window frame. No camera or QR code scanner is needed. You’ll discover the symbolism, and meaning behind each beautiful stained glass window and gain a deeper appreciation of our parish’s rich heritage.
A heartfelt thank you to Fr. Craig, who created the stickers and thoughtfully prepared this fascinating information for all of us to enjoy.

In the meantime…
In the meantime…
As we await the appointment of a new bishop, Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Reverend Bishop Daniel Miehm as the Apostolic Administrator for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough. An Apostolic Administrator is appointed to temporarily care for the people of a diocese and ensure all runs smoothly until a new bishop is appointed. During this time, we continue to pray for Bishop Miehm and for our new bishop.

WEDNESDAY! Come walk, talk, and pray with us
WEDNESDAY! Come walk, talk, and pray with us
Take a break from the busyness of the week and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, good conversation, and time for prayer.
Join us every Wednesday evening, July 15th to September 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. We’ll meet at the Bowmanville Valley South Parking Lot (Baseline Rd. between Spry Ave. and Hunt St.). Free parking is available.
Our walk is geared toward adults and follows a relaxed, moderate pace for about an hour along the paved trails beside Bowmanville Creek, winding through peaceful wooded areas. The route has few to no hills or obstacles. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too!
Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water and bug repellent, and dress for the weather.
If it’s raining, we’ll see you the following week.
Everyone is welcome! Invite a friend, neighbour, or family member—or simply come on your own. We’d love to walk, talk, and pray with you.

Biting insects: more than a nuisance for many
Biting insects: more than a nuisance for many
Bug Spray Collection Continues!
For most of us, mosquitoes and other biting insects are simply an annoyance. For those without stable shelter, they can be much more than that. Constant exposure to insects can make daily life difficult, and ticks, in particular, can pose serious health risks.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our parish family, our bug spray collection has been a wonderful success! Your donations have been greatly appreciated by those receiving them through the food bank, library, and other community outreach programs. Such a small act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s comfort, health, and dignity.
Because the need continues, we will continue collecting bug spray throughout the summer. A collection box is located in the church entrance. Thank you for helping us care for our neighbours in this simple but meaningful way.

A Look Back at June!
A Look Back at June!
June was filled with faith, friendship, laughter, and more than a few scoops of ice cream! From our Kindred Spirits BBQ, Youth Group Ice Cream Sundae Bash, and the priestly anniversary celebrations of Fr. Craig, Fr. Peter, and Brother Joseph, to celebrating two beautiful Confirmation Masses and four joyful First Holy Communion Masses, and many other parish gatherings, St. Joseph Church was truly alive with God’s blessings.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers, our amazing priests, our dedicated parish staff, and everyone who generously shared their time and talents to make these moments possible.
A special thank you to everyone who shared photos with the parish office. Because of your generosity, we’re able to capture and share these wonderful memories with our parish family. We’d love to create more video collages, so if you snap a few photos at a parish event, please send them to the parish office.
Click on the photo above to watch our June video collage and relive some of the wonderful moments we shared together.
May these memories bring a smile to your face —we can’t wait to make more wonderful memories together!

Pope’s Prayer Intention for July: For respect for human life.
Pope’s Prayer Intention for July: For respect for human life.
Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.
This month the Pope’s prayer intention is for respect for human life. People who live with a mental illness can lead lives of faith and courage. But all too often the lives of people who are struggling with a serious mental illness are not valued and shown respect.
The value of a person’s life is not diminished because they live with a serious mental illness. Christ always loves people who are frail and vulnerable and gives them hope.
Pope Leo XIV said to a woman who lived with serious depression and survived a suicide attempt, “through contact with Jesus, even those who feel lost regain confidence in life … they can rise to live again.” The Holy father reminds us that “Life is a gift…even in the midst of pain and suffering.
Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.(Click here to read the Monthly Day for Prayer for Mental Health on the Pope’s Prayer Network)

Venezuela earthquakes: you can help now
Venezuela earthquakes: you can help now
Venezuela earthquakes: the worst in over a century
At 6:04 p.m. local time on June 24, 2026, there was a magnitude 7.2 earthquake at San Felipe, in the state of Yaracuy, followed by another of magnitude 7.5, just 39 seconds later. The quakes, the strongest to strike Venezuela since the year 1900, have caused widespread damage across much of the country, especially in the La Guaira region and the capital, Caracas.
By Friday morning, Venezuelan authorities were reporting 589 people killed and 2,980 people injured. Media reports indicate that tens of thousands of people are unaccounted for, indicating that the ultimate death toll will likely be much higher. Statistical modelling by the United States Geological Survey pegs the probability of 10,000 people dying at 59 per cent, with a 17 per cent chance of the toll surpassing 100,000.
As a member of Canadian Foodgrains Bank, we benefit from the Government of Canada’s decision to match donations to Humanitarian Coalition organizations. This means that every dollar you donate for Venezuela until July 14 will be doubled, up to a maximum of $4 million.
