Communion Ministry at Mass
Communion Ministry at Mass
During celebrations with a large number of worshippers, a pastor may invite properly prepared lay individuals to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion. These men and women are like extensions of the hands of the celebrant in the task of bringing the nourishment of our Saviour to all who come to receive Him in Holy Communion. At our parish, these ministers are essential in enhancing our worship and ensuring that Jesus is offered to all.
This is an easy way for someone to serve our community, requiring the minister only to arrive at the church five minutes early when scheduled and to join in the occasional training workshop.
Want to help out? Come for some training on Saturday, May 2nd after the 9am Mass (9:45am)

🌷 Honouring Our Mothers – Mother’s Day Tribute
🌷 Honouring Our Mothers – Mother’s Day Tribute
“Her children rise up and call her blessed.” (Proverbs 31:28)
Let us come together in gratitude, love, and prayer as we honour our mothers. Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and as a parish family, we would love to take time to honour and give thanks for the gift of our mothers. Whether your mom is with you today or has passed away, her love, faith, and example continue to shape your life in many ways. All are invited to participate in this special parish tribute.
We invite you to help in creating a Mother’s Day Tribute by sharing a short memory, thought or reflection about your mom. In a sentence, please share…
- An unforgettable saying or phrase she often used
- A special meal or recipe she was known for
- A memory that comes to you in life, prayer or during a walk
- Something that reminds you of her love, strength or faith
- How her love has been an ongoing gift in your life
On Mother’s Day weekend, our collected shared thoughts, memories and reflections will be displayed as a beautiful tribute to the great impact mothers continue to make in our lives, faith and world.

March For Life – Thursday May 14th
March For Life – Thursday May 14th
God’s promise, “I will never forget you” (Is 49:15), is not only a reminder of his enduring faithfulness, but a call to witnesses to dignity of each person.
Join us in standing up for the rights of the unborn and advocating for life at all stages. The March for Life is a powerful event dedicated to raising awareness about the sanctity of life and promoting policies that protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
Why is this march important?
- Protecting the Unborn: Every life is precious, and this march is a call to defend the rights of unborn children who cannot speak for themselves.
- Opposing Assisted Suicide: We believe in providing compassionate care and support, not ending life prematurely. The march aims to promote dignity and respect for every individual, regardless of age or health.
- Community Support: Your presence helps amplify our message and shows lawmakers and the community that life is a fundamental right worth defending.
Convenience: No need to worry about transportation! The Knights of Columbus are pleased to sponsor a coach bus to Ottawa, making transportation affordable and easy.
Departing the St. Joseph Church parking lot at 7:15am returning at 8pm.
Students pay just $20, $30 for all others. (thanks to Knights’ sponsorship)

100 Hearts: Betrayal and Forgiveness in the Life of Blessed Clelia Merloni
The pain of betrayal by a trusted friend and the freedom born from forgiveness unfolds in two parallel dramas in the life of Blessed Clelia Merloni, Foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Professor Giulia de Magistris, a contemporary newly promoted school administrator. Each must decide whether to vindicate themselves or to forgive those who betrayed them. The two parallel narratives, placed nearly a century apart, reveal timeless truths demonstrating the holiness and powerful example of Mother Clelia.
Via Lucis
Via Lucis, or the Stations of Light, is a devotional practice for reflecting on the joy and hope of the Resurrection during the Easter season. While the Stations of the Cross commemorate Jesus’ journey to his crucifixion and death, the Stations of Light focus on the events that followed the Resurrection.

Monthly Prayer for Mental Health
Monthly Prayer for Mental Health
This month, the Pope’s prayer intention is for priests in crisis.
While the life of a priest is often filled with joy, many also experience stress, loneliness, and fatigue due to the demands of ministry. They, too, need care, support, and understanding.
Pope Leo reminds us:
“Above all, I urge you never to close yourselves off: Don’t be afraid to talk to others, even about your fatigue and your crises.”Let us pray that priests facing difficulties may receive the mental health care they need, build strong and supportive relationships, and be uplifted by the compassion and prayers of their communities.
May we also remember that moments of crisis can become opportunities for grace, growth, and healing when met with faith and support.

Help Not Harm for those with Mental Illness
Help Not Harm for those with Mental Illness
In Canada, new laws will take effect next year. As of March 17, 2027, those suffering solely from a mental illness will be eligible to pursue Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). This despite the fact that years of study have demonstrated that:
- Suicidal thoughts can be symptoms of illness.
- Recovery is possible with proper treatment and support.
- Care gaps remain – some may seek death because they can’t access help.
- The most vulnerable face greater risk – poverty, abandonment, and disability can push them toward despair.
Contact your Member of Parliament and tell them to stop the expansion of MAiD for those with mental illness and support Bill C-218 – An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying); “The Right to Recover Act”.
